The Formulation Chemist is responsible for the development of new agrochemical formulations and related projects, method analysis, and quality of products at toiler facilities. Reporting to Group Leader, the Formulation Chemist has responsibility for the day to day operations at the laboratory facilities.

This position is responsible for developing new pesticide formulations, alternative methods of analysis, development and upgrading of quality specifications, and the maintenance of the lab and all equipment. Key accountabilities include identifying changes in critical chemical product characteristics and the safety of self and team members.

The successful candidate will possess the ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, and governmental regulations. This position requires the ability to write reports and business correspondence.


Candidates should possess strong communication skills and the ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, associates, customers, and suppliers, and must have good interpersonal and negotiating skills, including ability to build an effective working relationship with supply partners and departments within the organization.

Mathematical Skills and Reasoning Ability

This position requires the ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions, and the ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or verbal form and deal with multiple abstract and concrete variables.

Education and/or Experience

Bachelor's degree (B.SJM,S) in Chemistry or Biochemistry, and at least 10 years of experience, preferably in an agrichemical environment, is required.

Strong computer skills with expertise in MS Office programs required.

Experience in working as an R&D scientist for agricultural formulation development preferably or in surfactant application R&D or in personal healthcare formulation development for 5 years or more,

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following:

  • Independently plan the experimental design for development of new for new formulations. Understand and analyze the active ingredients, physical/chemical properties and crystal morphology,
  • Have a complete understanding of rheological property testing of suspension concentrates, oil dispersions and capsule suspension liquid formulations.
  • Experience in the use of routine pesticide formulation testing tools such as viscometers, particle size analyzers, DSC, TGA, turbiscan, FTIR and UV spectrophotometers.
  • Expertise in handling and use of processing equipment such as wet and dlY grinding mills, high speed mixers and granulators.
  • Maintain a consistent habit of conducting literature searches and patent reading Knowledge and understanding of surfactants.
  • Need based visits to field sites, customer and toller locations.
  • Other duties may be assigned.
