Job Description: Visualization Platform Lead 

Role Overview 

The Visualization Platform Lead will be responsible for the design, management, and technical delivery of visualization platforms within the organization. This role encompasses platform delivery, data integration, license management, monitoring of the platforms, vendor management, OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) management, collaboration with support teams, and driving adoption, leveraging technologies such as Qlik Cloud, Qlik Sense, PowerBI, and Qlik Nprinting; and alignment with architecture best practices. The role will also be responsible for leading platform technical projects to ensure continuous enhancement and alignment with business objectives. The role will collaborate closely with architecture, infrastructure, security, audit, and support teams to ensure platform scalability, security, governance, compliance, and timely resolution of technical issues. The successful candidate will ensure that our data visualization platforms are robust, scalable, and aligned with business needs while providing leadership and direction to the visualization team.  

Key Responsibilities 

Platform Delivery 

  • Design and Management: Oversee the design, implementation, and ongoing management of Qlik Cloud, Qlik Sense, Power BI, Qlik NPrinting platforms, Qlik Data Transfer (QDT), Qlik Data Gateway (QDT) and other visualization platforms, ensuring they are optimized for performance, scalability, and user experience. 

  • Platform Integration: Ensure seamless integration of visualization and platforms with existing systems and data sources, including using Qlik Data Transfer (QDT) and Qlik Data Gateway (QDG) for secure data integrations. 

  • Technical Strategy: Develop and implement strategies for platform maintenance, upgrades, and enhancements to keep pace with technological advancements and business requirements. 

  • License Management: Oversee license management of visualization platforms, identify opportunities to optimize license usage and reduce costs, and work closely with procurement and finance teams to manage license renewals, track usage, and negotiate licensing terms. 

  • Adoption Tracking: Monitor and track user engagement with visualization platforms, gathering feedback to improve usability and promote continued adoption. 

  • Administration: Manage administration practices for platform ensuring optimal performance, monitoring, allocation, and cost management. Implement best practices, including user management, app distribution, and data source connectivity within for Visualization platforms. 

  • Monitoring and Alerting: Implement and manage monitoring solutions for Visualization platforms, QDT, and Qlik Data Gateway (QDG) to ensure continuous platform health and performance. Set up proactive monitoring for system performance, data loads, application usage, and user activity across Visualization platforms and associated tools. Establish alerts and reporting mechanisms to detect and resolve platform issues before they impact end-users. 

  • Support Collaboration: Assist internal support team to ensure timely issue resolution for platform-related incidents and service requests. Work closely with the support team to provide them with the necessary technical documentation, training, and guidance for troubleshooting common platform issues. Coordinate with vendors and OEM partners when issues cannot be resolved internally and ensure the support team is informed of progress. 

  • Continuous Improvement: Stay current with industry trends for platform capabilities and find opportunities to improve the deliveries. 

Collaboration with Technical Team 

  • Work closely with the architecture team to receive guidance on platform design, data model design, security measures, and governance practices. 

  • Conduct regular reviews with the architecture team to ensure alignment with technical best practices, enterprise architecture standards, and security protocols. 

  • Collaborate with architects on roadmap planning to ensure the visualization platforms evolve in line with broader enterprise goals. 

  • Coordinate with the infrastructure team to manage cloud resource allocation and ensure high availability and disaster recovery capabilities are in place for the platforms. 

  • Collaborate with the security and audit teams to conduct vulnerability assessments, audits, and risk evaluations and lead mitigation efforts in response to security vulnerabilities and audit findings. 

  • Implement and enforce governance frameworks, including data access controls, user permissions, and audit trails to ensure compliance with internal and external regulations. 

Data Delivery 

  • Data Integration: Manage data integration processes to ensure accurate and timely delivery of data to visualization platforms. This includes extracting, transforming, and loading (ETL) data from various sources. Assist and collaborate with use case delivery team to build datasets required for functional delivery. 

  • Data Quality: Implement and maintain data quality standards to ensure the reliability and accuracy of data used in visualizations. 

  • Data Governance: Establish and enforce data governance policies to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and internal data management standards. 

  • Collaboration: Collaborate with data engineers and architects to ensure robust data models that support advanced visualization needs. 

Visualization Delivery 

  • Visualization Design: Assist and collaborate with product managers and use case delivery team to design, development and delivery of high-quality dashboards, reports, and visual analytics that are insightful, interactive, and aligned with business objectives. 

  • NPrinting and Reporting Service Design: Oversee the delivery of Qlik NPrinting reports, ensuring timely and accurate distribution of reports. Manage reporting services in Qlik Cloud. 

  • User Training and Support: Provide training and support to end-users to maximize the value derived from data visualizations, ensuring they can effectively use the tools and interpret the data presented. 

  • Continuous Improvement: Stay current with industry trends and best practices in data visualization, continuously improving visualization techniques and approaches. 

Stakeholder Collaboration 

  • Engagement: Proactively engage with internal and external stakeholders to understand their needs, gather requirements, and ensure alignment with business objectives. 

  • Communication: Facilitate transparent and effective communication between stakeholders and the visualization team to manage expectations and deliver high-quality solutions. 

  • Feedback: Collect and incorporate stakeholder feedback to refine and enhance visualization products and services. 

  • Mentorship: Act as a technical expert to advise on best practices for data visualization and reporting. 

Vendor Management: 

  • Serve as the point of contact for all vendors and OEMs related to Qlik, Power BI, and related platforms. 

  • Manage relationships with software vendors as applicable, ensuring service-level agreements (SLAs) are met and that the organization’s needs are prioritized. 

  • Assist in contract negotiations, renewals, and licensing agreements with vendors and OEM partners. 

  • Coordinate with the procurement and legal teams to ensure compliance with vendor contracts and resolve any contract-related issues. 

  • Facilitate communication between internal teams and vendors or OEMs for troubleshooting, support, or new feature implementation. 

  • Evaluate vendor performance regularly and provide feedback to ensure high-quality service and alignment with organizational goals. 

Team Leadership 

  • Lead and mentor a team of visualization platform engineers, developers and administrators. 

  • Establish a culture of continuous improvement and innovation within the team. 

  • Provide guidance on technical challenges, ensuring best practices are followed across all projects. 

Project and Resource Management 

  • Colloborate with product management team and use case delivery team to support multiple visualization projects, assisting in on-time delivery, within scope, and meet quality standards. 

  • Lead technical projects related to the enhancement, migration, and optimization of Qlik Cloud, QDT, QDG, and other associated platforms. 

  • Oversee projects that introduce new features, platform integrations, or improvements in data pipeline efficiency. 

  • Manage the execution of proof-of-concepts (PoCs) and pilot projects for new visualization technologies or tools that can be integrated into the existing ecosystem. 

  • Manage resource allocation and project timelines to optimize team performance. 

  • Maintain clear communication with stakeholders and provide regular updates on project status. 

Qualifications 

Education and Experience 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Science, or a related field. A Master’s degree is preferred. 

  • Minimum of 8 years of experience in data visualization, reporting data integration, and platform management. 

  • Extensive experience with Qlik Cloud, Qlik Sense, Qlik NPrinting, Power BI, managing Qlik Data Gateway (QDG), Qlik Data Transfer (QDT), and administering Qlik Cloud environments. 

  • Proven experience in leading visualization, platform, and data delivery projects. 

  • Proven experience leading platform technical projects, including upgrades, integrations, and optimization initiatives. 

Technical Skills 

  • Proficient in Qlik Sense, Qlik Cloud, Qlik NPrinting, and Power BI platform management and development. 

  • Strong understanding of data integration, ETL processes, and data modeling. 

  • Proficiency in SQL and other relevant scripting languages for data extraction and manipulation. 

  • Experience with platform security, governance, and audit best practices. 

  • Familiarity with cloud-based environments and platform security protocols.
