JOB SUMMARY:

As the Intellectual Property Lead, you will collaborate in the development and delivery of overall North American business strategy as part of a team of IP professionals globally. This is a foundational role to ensure we meet both customer demands, as well as protecting and driving growth in the evolution of our business.

 

In this role, you will work closely with senior team members and leadership team to assess customers business objectives and to tailor project scope, content, and implementation to best address those objectives. You will be the main point of contact for coordinating all IP matters in North America with the Global IP team. A strong partnership with our OpenAg Center to support all North American IP needs to set patent strategies. You will also be responsible for invention scouting from Research, Development and Chemistry teams, along with field trials and marketing to devise strategy for patent filing.  This role will be responsible for patent drafting through to execution of parent application in North America including contract reviews as it relates to IP matters. It will also review early IP screening and will have the freedom to operate analysis of North American projects.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

  • Assist in driving Intellectual Property invention scouting and new patent application filings within North America.
  • Freedom to Operate analysis: Patent searches using various databases, Preparation of Patent Landscape, Infringement analysis of formulation/recipe proposed by R&D Chem and Review of critical patents
  • Enjoy collaborating with more- and less-experienced team members on projects
  • Create and maintain Best Practices for Patent Protection
  • Support the creation of project proposals tailored to business objectives and constraints
  • Work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders in the delivery of services, products and solutions
  • Participate in presentations to customers, presenting select content and addressing select issues
  • Serve as a key resource to the team by independently seeking out answers to questions and taking the initiative to address project needs
  • Demonstrate an ability to identify and prioritize the important work, address pressing issues and establish process improvements
  • Utilize queries to retrieve, analyze and manipulate data as necessary
  • Identify opportunities for improvement across our current software platform and recommend solutions to ensure maximum efficiency and utilization
  • Have access to internal and external resources for client and industry research

 

 

 

Required Skills and Experience:

 

  • 5-10 years of relevant IP experience, preferably including time working as part of an in-house in a large patent firm in an IP team
  • Patent database search, ability to find out relevant prior arts, good computer skills
  • Sound Patent & Formulation Knowledge
  • Good knowledge of US & Canada Patent Rules for doing Infringement analysis
  • Understanding of the chemical/agrochemical business will be advantageous
  • Engineering or technical training highly desired
  • Experience with a wide range of publicly available IP analytic tools and other resources, including IP portfolio management databases

 

Education:

J.D. Law, MBA or other relevant graduate degree highly desired
