Primary Responsibility: The Data Scientist/BI Specialist will play a crucial role in developing, maintaining, and enhancing our plant breeding system. This position requires strong statistical and data science skills, with a particular emphasis on experience with Business Intelligence (BI) tools such as Spotfire. The successful candidate will work closely with our plant breeders, data base engineers, and software developers to provide insights and visualizations that drive our plant breeding programs.
Major Job Responsibilities:
Requirement Analysis:
• Work closely with plant breeders and other stakeholders to understand their data visualization and dashboard needs and translate them into software requirements.
• Collaborate and prototype to ensure that proposed BI solutions meet the needs of plant breeders and other stakeholders, providing clear, concise, and impactful visualizations.
• Provide training and support to team members on the use of BI tools and data analysis techniques.
• Design, develop, and implement BI Solutions using Spotfire to provide actionable insights into plant breeding data.
• Interpretive reporting and decision support dashboards.
• Embedded applications visualizations.
• In Spotfire Analytics.
• Connectivity to data bases and analysis services.
Data Management:
• Translate software requirements into software technical specifications.
• Perform data cleaning, transformation, and integration from various sources to ensure data quality and consistency.
• Collaborate with database engineers to optimize data workflows and storage solutions for BI applications.
Documentation and Innovation:
• Develop and maintain documentation for BI solutions, data analysis processes, and statistical models.
• Stay updated with the latest developments in BI tools, data science, and plant breeding technologies, and integrate innovative approaches into BI solutions.
Job Skills & Requirements:
• Proven experience in using BI tools such as Spotfire, Tableau, or Power BI, with a strong preference for Spotfire.
• Experience with data visualization and creating compelling, interactive dashboards.
• Knowledge of plant breeding and agricultural data is highly desirable.
• Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
• Strong communication skills, with the ability to convey complex technical information to non-technical stakeholders.
• Ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team environment.
Additional Desirable Skills:
• Experience with cloud-based data platforms and tools.
• Statistical and/or Data Science skills.
Educational Background:
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Data Science, Computer Science, or a related field.
