Job Summary:
The Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) Technician supports site-wide Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) programs, including safety audits, inspections, incident investigations, and employee training. It helps maintain compliance with OSHA, EPA, and DOT regulations; manages environmental and sustainability tracking; and supports emergency response, contractor safety, PPE programs, and hazardous materials shipping. The position also assists with community outreach, EHS documentation, and on‑site security while providing cross‑regional EHS support.
Required Qualifications/Experience:
- High school diploma or GED
- Associate’s or bachelor’s degree in EHS, Occupational Safety, Environmental Science, Chemistry, or related field preferred
- Minimum 3 years of EHS experience in a chemical, manufacturing, or high-hazard industrial environment

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Safety & Health:

- Lead and manage the internal EHS audit program.
- Serve as the champion for the UPL Safety Team, promoting a strong safety culture.
- Perform routine safety inspections, including first‑aid stations, eyewash units, and fire extinguishers.
- Collect, document, and analyze Safety Observations and Near‑Miss reports.
- Plan and conduct Emergency Response drills.
- Lead incident investigations, perform root‑cause analysis, and ensure corrective actions are completed.
- Utilize internal systems such as Safety Mint and the Sustainability Tracker to maintain compliance and reporting accuracy.
- Develop Job Safety Analyses (JSA/JHA) and manage safe work permitting processes (LOTO, hot work, confined space entry).
- Monitor PPE usage, manage inventory, and coordinate resupply.
- Create, deliver, track, and document employee EHS training, including new‑hire orientation.
- Support the Contractor Safety Program and ensure contractor compliance.
- Administer the employee shoe and safety‑eyewear voucher program.
- Environmental & Regulatory Compliance:
- Support compliance with environmental permits, including air, water, and waste regulations.
- Maintain SDS management systems and ensure Hazard Communication compliance.
- Assist with spill prevention, emergency response programs, SPCC, and SWPPP requirements.
- Participate in regulatory inspections (OSHA, EPA) and corporate audits.
- Track environmental impact reduction metrics by collecting and analyzing utility data.
- Other Key Responsibilities:
- Lead community engagement initiatives (e.g., food and clothing drives, Adopt‑A‑Highway programs).
- Read, interpret, and apply regulatory requirements (DOT, OSHA, EPA).
- Assist in project planning and cost management activities.
- Create training materials and track performance metrics using PowerPoint, Excel, and Word.
- Handle sensitive information with discretion and maintain confidentiality.
- Provide back‑up support for EHS functions across North America.
- Support hazardous materials shipping activities (DOT, IATA compliance).
- Leverage AI tools to enhance efficiency and output.
- Assist with on‑site security processes and initiatives.
