Position Purpose:
UPL seeks a qualified legal counsel to help us comply with all regulations and requirements. The Legal counsel will manage all litigation realted matters and draft and manage legal documents, oversee all legal aspects of our business, and offer guidance and advice to management.
Reporting to: Head – Legal – Superform
Type: Individual contributor
Office: On - site
Travel: As per requirements.
Key Responsibilities:
- Advising on litigation strategy and advising on next steps in case of disputes / litigation proceedings;
- non-disclosure/confidentiality agreements;
- memoranda of understanding/letters of intent/term sheets;
- licensing agreements;
- toll manufacturing contracts;
- service agreements;
- marketing agreements;
- lease deeds;
- supply and distribution agreements;
- IT service agreements; etc.

If the candidate is open to also undertake non-litigation work (albeit not the mainstay of the role): drafting/revising varied commercial contracts such as the following, related discussions/negotiations with internal terms and external third parties:

Briefing internal teams on the status and updates regarding ongoing matters;

Attending hearings, meeting with third parties, offices of relevant regulators, meeting with police officials etc. in course of performing its functions;

Co-ordination with external advocates/legal counsels on litigation matters;

Undertaking related research and assessment;

Drafting and vetting of requisite documentation for all litigation matters;

Risk assessment, and providing legal advice and mitigation strategy to internal teams;
Qualifications & Experience:
- Minimum 8-10 years of work experience after completing LLB/LLM from a well recognized/reputed institute;
- Experience should be predominantly in the litigation field;
- Candidates who are open to also taking on a certain amount of non-litigation work (drafting/revising varied commercial contracts, related discussions/negotiations with internal terms and external third parties, etc.) would be preferred
Key Skills:
- Litigation process and litigation strategy experience;
- Strong drafting skills;
- Excellent analytics abilities;
- Effective verbal and written communication skills;
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively with cross functional teams;
- Good interpersonal skills to serve as a bridge between commercial teams and internal legal team; and
- Ability to understand commercial priorities while performing legal roles and responsibilities.
