JOB SUMMARY:
The role of the Formulation Chemist will be to develop and test formulations in support of UPL’s portfolio and new products, develop, test and compare formulations for new AI additions to portfolio, improve current formulations, find innovative and novel ways to add value, evaluate new AI’s and/or raw materials in existing formulations, manufacture samples for product chemistry, efficacy studies and field evaluation as needed and understand and implement federal and global mandated formulations changes.
JOB RESPONSIBILITES:
- Formulation Development (60%) including but not limited to
- New formulation development – Planning and Execution of Experiment
- Formulation improvement and evaluation
- Reverse engineer competitor products
- Act as lead on stability, efficacy and trials associated with formulations
- Maintain records as required
- Basic Knowledge of Analytical Testing – GC, HPLC, pH Meter, Densitometer, Rheology meter and etc
- Documentation and / or Journal Writing
- Basic Knowledge of MSDS
- Basic Knowledge of Lab Safety and PPE use
- Manufacture sample formulations for product chemistry, efficacy studies and sample program as needed (20%).
- Schedule and assist with stability studies to support formulations (10%)
- Author formula cards including Darwin formulas, particularly formulation processes, product specifications and technology transfers (10%).

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- Bachelor’s degree in chemistry or science and minimum 5 years’ formulation lab experience.
- Must have a working knowledge of industry manufacturing techniques and capabilities and work with the manufacturing group to optimize the manufacturing process for new formulations.
- Good computer skills, proficient in Microsoft office.
PREFERRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- Master’s degree in chemistry or science or PhD
- Experience with formulation equipment and general analytical equipment in developing Ag formulations with a knowledge of pesticide formulations and EPA/PMRA/REACH requirements.
- Experience working in a fast-paced laboratory environment working in a collaborative team environment with other disciplines and global units.
